Snowmobiling the Pinchot State Forest in Lackawanna County, PA on the Thornhurst Snowmobile Trail system.
Thornhurst Snowmobile Trail Map
28-mile snowmobile trail system through Pinchot State Forest.
Snowmobile trailer parking lots are located at the Manny Gordon Picnic area and near the intersection of Pittston Road and Bear Lake Road.
At the intersection of the Bear Lake Road is where we parked for this trip.
First rode the southern end (wooded trails) of the trail system before jumping over Bear Lake Road to ride the other northern (more open – not as wooded) half of the system.
This trail system opens after PA RIFLE deer season and remains open until late in the spring or until conditions are unrideable.
Thornhurst snowmobile trails are well marked and groomed.
Even though the trails were clearly marked and the road signs were bigger and visible to navigate.
We also rely on our Polaris Ride Command App.
The POLARIS RIDE COMMAND app is beneficial as a GPS map for snowmobile trails.
The Polaris Ride Command app has all official snowmobile trails in the US as easily found GPS layers.

This was the first time we ventured to the Thornhurst Snowmobile Trails in the Pinchot State Forest.
Riding over picturesque north east PA streams on wooden bridges.
Using the CROSSING TRAIL bridge over Spring Run to continue to Bear Swamp Trail.
Snowmobiling on the trail over Spring Run which originates in the Cranberry Swamp – Pinchot State Forest
The heavy ice and snow making the hemlock branches hang low gave a beautiful scene when snowmobiling down the trails.
SPRUCE SWAMP NATURAL AREA
The natural area is comprised of 87 acres of glacial bog containing native spruce, balsam fir, and tamarack.
Labrador tea and bog rosemary grow here in the snowmobile off season.
